UN GRAN CASINO
A collaborative feature film directed by Daniel Hoesl with Sandra Ceccarelli in the leading role, winner of the Coppa Volpi at Venice Film Festival, the Pasinetti Prize and the Golden Goblet, and with award winning Christina Andrea Rosamilia.
Based on a text by the critically acclaimed playwright Thomas Köck, with music by Ja, Panik and with on-screen participation by singer Andreas Spechtl.
Produced by Georg Aschauer and Daniel Hoesl. A European Film Conspiracy.
Financed by BMKÖS, Austrian Broadcasting ORF, Province of Lower Austria, City of Vienna MA7.
The grave accent (`) in the word Casinò makes a crucial difference in the Italian language: UN GRAN CASINO translates to A BIG MESS and UN GRAN CASINÒ translates as A BIG CASINO.
Director’s Biography:
Daniel Hoesl found his way to cinema through Gilles Deleuze’s philosophical books on cinema. His early influences can be found in the works of Alain Resnais, Marguerite Duras and Alain Robbe-Grillet. UN GRAN CASINO film is a very personal one for the director, a film like his own brain, this chirping machine. Torn between apocalypse and revolution, a spiral of thought in a time when nothing seems possible except apocalypse or revolution. Rien ne va plus?
Filmography:
VENI VICI VICI (2024), Sundance + IFFR
DAVOS (2020), Nyon + Vision du Réel
WINWIN (2016), IFFR
Soldate Jeannette (2013), Sundance + IFFR Tiger Award
